Experimental Aircraft 03

OPENING QUESTION:

What occurs when an airplane "stalls?"

Here's a rather terrifying example of a 747 cargo plane undergoing a stall

We've talked a fair amount about engines for experimental aircraft, now let's look at.... well... experimental aircraft!

Here's an interesting question for you: "Estimate the shortest ever takeoff and landing of a regular (non-experimental) not VTOL (vertical Take-Off and Landing)

THIS may surprise you

Now let's take a look at (by request) "The Flying Pancake:"

LEARNING GOAL FOR TODAY:

I will be able to sketch the forces acting on the 'Flying Pancake" and show how they are different from "regular" aircraft after today's class.

WORDS O' THE DAY:

WORK O' THE DAY:

Let's take a look at a model for this aircraft and how it evolves into an actual flying machine

Now let's actually diagram the forces on the flying pancake as it:

1) Takes off

2) Moves in level flight

3) Lands

Is there a modern equivalent <sorta kinda> to this aircraft?
