Introductio to AeroSpace 02

OPENING QUESTION:  Imagine THIS plane slowing increasing speed as it goes down the runway:

Identify the plane, the decade it flew and why it is relevent.

Have a conversation with your group and then sketch the forces acting on that plane at that time.

Which of our four forces were the developers of that plane MOST concerned about?

Why?

What did they do about that?

LEARNING GOAL FOR TODAY: I will be able to list the four forces acting on an aircraft in flight during today's class.

WORDS O' THE DAY:

  • Thurst ("forward pushing force")
  • Air Friction ("resists forward motion")
  • Lift ("Lower pressure, upward pull")
  • Weight ("gravity & mass")

WORK O' THE DAY:

Now let's try something kinda interesting...

Build your favorite paper airplane (I've got lots of scratch paper!)

Before you launch it, suggest how air friction will impact your plane.

Now have a conversation with your group about thrust... that is a very, very tricky conversation to have for a paper airplane.
